(photo of me, 2006)

During the month of November I’ll be updating this “who am I” page, along with the general look of the blog.  For now: a placeholder.

When I started Retired Waif, two years ago, it was largely a blog about pregnancy intersecting with chronic illness.  I also had every intention of putting some fiction and academic writing up here, and generally delving into religious topics (my area of study).

The fiction and theology is still on its way, but in the time I’ve had this blog I’ve also become a card-carrying member of the “disability community,” and am intending to focus the blog more on how I confront the social model of disability in everyday, academic, familial and professional life.

Occasionally, however, I will still make intimations about my twisted sex life, so it will still be worth hanging around.  I promise.

I knew when I saw your siggy on MDC (the real reason your house is a disaster) that I had to read your blog.

    you’re awesome

    and a little terrifying.

great blog! I clicked on your link on MDC. I’m happy to hear you are going for homebirth with MS. The Nat’l MS Society website, while well-meaning, has pretty limited birth stories, so it is nice to see a woman taking another path. Best of luck to you.

Just delurking to wish you well. I’ve really appreciated the blog — my son has Down syndrome, so I found you through some disability rights links. All the very best, and I hope you’ll keep the internet updated as you go.

You have been blogger tagged! Just learned about this, but here it goes. It’s just another way to get like minded folk reading each others blogs. Here’s the rules to blogger tag:

    1. Let others know who tagged you.

    2. Players start with 8 random facts about themselves.

    3. Those who are tagged should post these rules and their 8 random facts.

    4. Players should tag 8 other people and notify them they have been tagged.

    You’re it!

You had a homebirth while having MS ??!! YOU ROCK! My sister has MS and has to also deal with the steroids junk. She wanted a 2nd child but due to economics & the MS she never did, so I’m doubly impressed with your 2nd pregnancy.
Just found your blog from an MDC link. Fascinating that you’re both Budhist & Catholic, I’m catholic and intrigued by budhism.

    Hala,

I found your blog! I was upset to see MDC down again this weekend. I was enjoying our conversation. I’m adding you to my myspace page. Talk with you again soon.

Really great news! Congratulations! Did you have a mid wife? Did you water birth? How did this happen so neatly? I am so pleased, it feels as if one of my own did this…

I am reading Hermione Lee’s bio of Virginia Woolf and getting ready for the new semester to begin at the end of August. I can feel myself beginning to rev up for the work.

Enough from me for now—stay well, be well, be blessed!
